I like to read. I like to write. I also like to drive. I can play the berimbau, rudimentary atabaque and pandeiro. I’m learning GNU/Linux. I can speak three languages fluently and I’m working on two. Now, this is not just a list of all the amazing shit I can do. This isn’t that amazing. And that is my point. Why are our paths structured to be so linear? Graduate from high school and go to college to pick a career and spend the rest of your life in that career. Our definition as human beings are bound up in that career and how much material it can bring you in life. Why?
Why can we not be nonlinear? Many of the ancients that we remember to this day are polymaths. Imhotep, for example. Why do we specialize to a point that we can do almost nothing else? As a man, what good can I be if I can’t change a tire, change the oil, fix stuff around the house, have a conversation about relationships and friendship, paint the wall, help with cooking, do the heavy lifting, etc. There is a lot required of me and we do not realize how important these tasks are. If you just take the time to stop and like at a mundane task and do a little research, you might be flabbergasted with you will learn. Either that or be very pleasantly surprised.
Learn something today. Play with your brain. Neruoplasticity is real and it will help you when you get older. I, for one, do not want to be the old guy that can’t recognize his own children. Fuck all that noise. I plan on making myself one hell of an interesting and pleasant nuisance. If I make it to that age. Who knows what could happen. I’m going to annoy my grown children with all the knowledge they don’t know and tell them their youth makes them stupid. (Yes, we the youth are stupid in our youth. We’ll get over it, though.) I want to be the father and grandfather that can teach my children and grandchildren all kind sof random and seemingly useless stuff that will tickle their brains and allow them to see the world from a much higher vantage point.
It is time to regain your brain and stop this peon foolishness. Didn’t you see the Matrix? Take both pills and see what happens.
